University of East London: Docklands Campus

(photo of UEL Docklands)

The venue for 2010 BiCon/10 ICB is the Docklands Campus of the University of East London (UEL). This is the same venue that was used for BiCon in 2003, although we are mostly using different areas of it. UEL is a Stonewall Diversity Champion – to quote the UEL web site: "Stonewall has awarded Diversity Champion accreditation to the University of East London for our attempts to address the needs of lesbians, gay men and bisexuals in the wider community. We are committed to equality in all aspects of participation at UEL." We had a great time there in 2003, and are very much looking forward to returning.

UEL is a modern campus with excellent wheelchair accessibility throughout; the accommodation, bar and session room space all have lifts. We have accommodation reserved on site with over 300 bedrooms available for our attendees – less than five minutes walk from the session spaces and even closer to the social spaces. Our on site accommodation is single en-suite rooms, with shared kitchen facilities. If you would prefer not to stay at the venue, or would like a double room the nearest alternative off-site accommodation is the Premier Inn Hotel in Becton, about a ten minute walk away.

Getting there

The UEL Docklands campus is very accessible by public transport. Cyprus Station on the Docklands Light Railway is situated directly at the main entrance, and has step-free access to both platforms. It is close to London City airport, and there are good transport links to Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted.

We encourage everyone to use public transport where possible, but if you are driving, the campus is at the eastern end of the North Circular road (A406) in London, and on-site parking will be available.
